March 19th-23rd

Good afternoon parents;

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. We have a busy week ahead. We will continue to learn about the sun and moon. The Essential Question of the week will stay the same as last weeks: What do you see in the sky?

Reading: Your child will come home with their ipads on Tuesday and Thursday. Please be sure and get them charged fully.Their books will be in RAZ Kids. They know how to login. I have assigned each reading group a non-fiction book that relates to the essential question.  Please have your child read to you five times each night. Ask them questions about their book. This will help with retell. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday they will bring the paper book home. Please make sure they bring their paper books back to school each day this week.

Math: We are on Lesson 4 in unit 4. We will be working on telling story problems using our pretend market. We will model addition by buying fruit. We will model subtraction by buying fruit later in the week.  This will be an activity that I plan to do all week.

Writing: In writing we are learning about non-fiction writing.
  • How do writers create books that are fun to read and also teach readers about something?

Sight Words: The sight word this week is "What".  Keep practicing these sight words at home. They are: the, see, can, a, I, like, we, to, go, and, you, do, my, is, little, he, with, she, was, for,  have, said, of, and wantThey can write the sight words on index cards to make flash cards. They can trace them in salt. Continue to help your child practice these sight words each night.

Hello Parents!!!

I want to thank everyone for coming to parent teacher conferences last week. We had great conversations about your child and their next steps before the end of the year.

March 5th-9th

Good afternoon parents! I hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather. I did. I spent time outside with my dog and quality time with my daughter who is home for spring break.

This week we will be having our parent teacher conferences. I am excited to sit down with each of you and talk about your child. If you haven't signed into signup genius you still can.

Report cards went home on Friday in your child's back pack.

Reading: We are in unit 7 week 3 of Wonders. Our essential question for the week is: Where do animals live? They will be bringing home books to read for their guided reading groups. Please be sure to let them read to you each night for at least five minutes. They use different strategies to help them with unfamiliar words.  Some of my reading groups are learning to be fluent readers and my other groups are working to be fluent with the sounds in a spoken word. While reading, have sound out the word hearing each sound in that unfamiliar word.

Math: We are working on unit 4 lesson 2 and 3 again this week.  We are working on mastering story problems using addition and subtraction. We are also learning to make partners of 10 using different strategies to help us understand this concept.

In writing we are still working on what it means to be a writer.

Sight Words: The sight word this week is  Said. Keep practicing these sight words at home. They are: the, see, can, a, I, like, we, to, go, and, you, do, my, is, little, he, with, she with, was, for, and have.
They can write the sight words on index cards to make flash cards. They can trace them in salt. Continue to help your child practice these sight words each night.
