Good afternoon parents;
I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break. I had a great break. I spent the week relaxing and catching up on some "me" time. We are jumping right into school The Essential Question of the week is "How can we help out at home? They were given a new book that relates to our Essential Question. Please have them read to you each night and return with the book each day.
Reading: Talk with your child about the book and ask them questions. Please have your child read to you five times each night. Ask them questions about their book. This will help with retell. Please make sure they bring their paper books back to school each day. We are still focusing on fluency and comprehension. The books are fiction books and only two groups have their books on RAZ Kids. I still encourage them to go onto RAZ Kids and read other books after reading their assigned reading group book.
Math: We are on Lesson 8 in unit 4. We are working on Math Mountains. This is an extension of partners of 5,6,7, and 10. We are still working on telling story problems using our pretend market. We will act out our story problems in groups and then write them out to show our understanding of the story problems.
Writing: We are focusing on non-fiction writing.
- How do writers create books that are fun to read and also teach readers about something?
Sight Words: The sight word this week are help, and too. Keep practicing these sight words at home. They are: the, see, can, a, I, like, we, to, go, and, you, do, my, is, little, he, with, she, was, for, have, said, of, want, and What. They can write the sight words on index cards to make flash cards. They can trace them in salt. Continue to help your child practice these sight words each night.
